I really liked this piece for a number of reasons: the haunting melancholy tone, the use of color, the melted and broken candle holders, and of course, the mermaid. I did go back a couple times as this seems top notch graphic novel material or very fine comic illustration work and almost ascends to fine art. My only hopefully constructive critique has to do with the edges of the frame and symbology.
It would be great if there were a few other small iconic symbols of the mermaid scattered on the edges and even more attention paid to wall and floor edge minor detail. For example, a dropped necklace of Poseiden’s Trident, ref: www.dragonoak.com/TribalRuneWo… or couple discarded shells s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/2… say suggesting perhaps the opposite end of Botticelli’s Venus Born of the Sea. I also had a quick look at Wikipedia’s Mermaid entry: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mermaid and I thought perhaps this coin on the ground: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia… or a a very small sea horse In this painting by Repin, if you enlarge at the mid left there is a seahorse floating: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mermaid#… A few more small symbolical here would also be good at the edges on the various rectangular frames to further suggest mood. Otherwise, great work.
